Summer Show Season – Quick Ways to Prepare Now
Gift show time can creep up on you fast, take a moment now to get ready!
It’s March. And it’s probably been snowing in your neck of the woods this week too. While we probably all want to curl up in front of a fire with a good book, chances are you’re reading this at your store. So maximize this downtime and make your summer show plans now!
First things first, select the show you’re going to visit. We’ve rounded up the dates of major shows with links to their websites. Maybe you go to the market you always visit or perhaps you consider something new this year. Either way block your calendar now.
Summer Show Dates
Whichever show you decide to attend, we’ll be there for you! To make your visit to our showroom even smoother, and avoid a wait, make an appointment with your rep. That way your rep can be ready for you with ideas in mind to help you select the best products for your store.
Your next step is to book your travel. Booking early can help you save money by taking advantage of lower hotel prices before things get booked up. We like to start by looking at the partner hotels on the show websites. These usually have good rates and are close to the show.
After that, and especially if you’re traveling with other people from your store, take a look at Airbnb which offers very reasonable rates on rooms and apartments; sometimes with added bonuses like free breakfast or insider restaurant tips. For instance, in Las Vegas we found a variety of options from a luxury room on the strip for $105 a night with FREE valet parking (plus a cleaning and service fee) to a two-bedroom luxury penthouse that sleeps 7 for $649 a night.
Once you’ve selected your show and started your travel preparations, you’ll want to think about what you need to buy. A lot of retailers tell us they have a notebook specifically for shows that they break out into seasons (Holiday, Spring, Summer, Fall). From there, they note the products they already have and think about what additional categories of product they may need to fill in – things like: candles, tabletop, checkout impulse, etc.
If you’re more of a visual person, consider creating Pinterest boards with the items you already have and then browsing your favorite vendors’ websites or Pinterest boards to find more inspiration. At Melrose, we like to think of our Pinterest as an extension of our showroom and we hope you’ll find a lot of “Pinspiration” there!
From planning your purchases to booking travel show time will be here fast (even if it feels like it will be cold forever!). So take advantage of the slow season to plan your show visit.
